1) Cleanse - As you would the rest of your face, ensure your lips are clean and patted dry.
2) Exfoliate - The most important step as this is going to get rid of any flaky skin. You can use a pre-made exfoliator which you can get from Lush, in pots, or a stick (like the one I have) by E.L.F. Using circular motions, buff the exfoliator into your lips for 30 Seconds to a minute, not only are you eliminating dead and flaky skin, you are also stimulating blood flow in the area which will mean your lips will appear fuller...bonus!
(A sugary mixture including Shea butter and avocado to moisturise as well as exfoliate)
3) Wipe away the exfoliator with a warm muslin cloth or rinse with warm water. Again pat dry and apply your lip balm. Here are some tips when purchasing lip balm:
- Try to buy lip balms made with natural ingredients such as Beeswax (great for locking in moisture and protecting from the environment), Lanolin (contains oils that a greatly nourishing for the skin and hair) and Cocoa Butter (smells good enough to eat and is very moisturising).
- Try to avoid artificial colours and fragrances as these can dry out lips.
- Aviod ingredients such as Menthol, Camphor and Phenol because these dry your lips out more. A lot of companies actually use these ingredients so you keep applying their product, going through it quicker and therefore buying it more often.
(Burt's Bees is the ideal Lip Balm for nourishing dry lips.)
